Day 1

Ho Chi Minh – Mekong Delta – Ben Tre – Can Tho

Transfer:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

From Ho Chi Minh city, we will start off the trip to Ben Tre, a lovely countryside province of Mekong Delta which is 130 km away and takes 2.5 – 3 hours driving.  At Phong Nam Pier, you will take a boat ride on the river of Chet Say (Mekong’s part).

Before reaching the destination, you will have a chance to experience the making of traditional products. One of the most interesting workplaces you are about to visit is the coconut factory, where every single part of a coconut is used and processed into different products like coconut charcoal, candies, handicraft or hat.

In order to give tourists a deeper insight into the life of the locals, the boat will stop at a local village located on a small canal. When you set foot on the weaving house, you can observe how straw mats are made and you can even roll up your sleeves and pitch in weaving one.

Leaving the weaving workshop, you will find yourself on xe loi (a motorized rickshaw vehicle) or you can ride a bike if you like to explore every corner of the village. On the beautiful rice paddy fields and green growing lands, farmers are harvesting, plowing the soil by simple tools. Enjoy the site yourself.

Then, let’s take a short rest and have lunch at a local house, tasty local dishes that are cooked from elephant–ear fish, river shrimp and some glasses of cold drinks would make you pleased.

You have enjoyed your time there, now let’s sail back to the Pier through the channels and travel to Can Tho. Dinner on your own. Staying one night at the hotel.

Day 2

Can Tho – Cai Rang Market – Chau Doc

Transfer:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Set off on a boat at Ninh Kieu Pier, you will be taken to Cai Rang market – a vibrant and lively market that floats on the river.

Cai Rang is a huge selling hub. By 6 am, it is already packed with boats and throbbed with businesses. People sell a wide variety of products, and fruits are the most popular item for sale at Cai Rang. You can see big boats bringing watermelons, pumpkins, cabbages, sweet potatoes and garlic from fields as far as 30 miles away.

There is even advertising. On boats, products are hung on bamboo poles so tourists and locals can easily know which products each boat is selling. Most visitors don’t realize it at first, but once tour guides explain, they are all excited.

During the trip, observing local simple life and their daily activities, you will fall for the plain beauty of this rustic countryside.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Situated at the intersection of a tributary linking the Bassac and Mekong Rivers, Chau Doc is your next destination. The town has the diverse culture of Chinese, Cham and Khmers. Through the vast rice paddy fields, the highest mountain in the area - Sam (690 feet in height) and the Mubarak mosque appear magnificently in your sight.

Check in your hotel. Dinner on your expense. Staying one night at the hotel.

Day 3

Chau Doc Sightseeing

Transfer:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, hop on the wooden boat and go along Chau Doc river to visit hundreds of fish farms, which are close to the border of Cambodia.

Then, you will go back to the hotel to have lunch. Take a nap.

In the afternoon, embark on a trip to Sam Mountain and contemplate the remarkable worshipping places here. The sites consist of Ba Chua Xu Temple, Tay An Pagoda, and the Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, each with its own unique architectural decorations.

Have dinner by yourself and stay one night at the hotel.

"After watching a video of boat rides in the floating market, I decided to book this tour. It turned out even more amazing than the video. Visiting a market that literally floats on the river, navigating by boat, was a uniquely enchanting experience. It felt surreal and added an extra layer of fascination to the Mekong Delta journey."

"My 4 days in Mekong Delta were fantastic, and a culinary highlight was snagging the recipe for Cao Lau from a vendor at Cai Rang Floating Market haha... Heading back home, I'm definitely trying my hand at making it. Who knows, maybe I'll open a Cao Lau restaurant in Australia hahaa"

"I stayed in the Mekong Delta for 4 days, and it was awesome! I couldn't believe how many different tropical fruits I could try and they were cheap too! I had pineapples, coconuts, bananas, and watermelons every day - it was like a fruity paradise! I wish I could have stayed longer to try even more exotic fruits. But, I'm already planning to go back with Asia Private Travels  and have another trip of fruity delights!"

"During my 4-day trip, the local lunch was the bomb! The elephant-ear fish and river shrimp were so delicious. The Cai Rang market was also pretty cool. I think it would've been even better if we had a quick cooking class. That way, I could learn more about the local ingredients and make the most out of the culinary experience."

"Our family had a blast during our Mekong Delta tour! We had super fun boat rides, checked out a coconut factory, and went for a cool xe loi ride that everyone enjoyed. Exploring the local village and weaving were definitely the highlights of our trip. We also had a yummy local lunch, and the perfect mix of culture and relaxation made it an ideal family adventure. BTW, we think it would be even better if there were more kid-friendly activities and safety measures during xe loi rides."

"I recently went on a tour of the Mekong Delta, and it was a wonderfully peaceful experience. The Asia Private Travels service provided by the tour guides was excellent and made the journey stress-free. During boat rides and cultural visits, the guides provided helpful and informative commentary that added to the experience. The local village had a peaceful ambiance, and the itinerary was well-curated, making it a perfect retreat. However, I felt that a more diverse lunch menu and additional cultural insights could further enhance the experience."

"As a solo traveler, I gotta say that the Mekong Delta tour was absolutely amazing and gave me a real taste of the local life. Seeing how the coconut factory worked and getting hands-on with weaving in the village was a unique experience that I'll never forget. The bike ride through the stunning landscapes was truly breathtaking, and the local lunch was finger-licking good. Though, I feel like more information on the coconut factory products and getting to interact with the locals would've made it even better."
